Hairstyles for ‘second day’ hair

by

If like me you struggle to style your hair when you’re in between washes, then here are three styles that are perfect and easy to achieve. That second day hair doesn’t always have to be scraped back in a ponytail. These three hairstyles are ideal for hair that hasn’t just been washed, meaning you can get away with your hair that little bit longer!

Believe it or not, some hairstyles are easier to create with ‘second day hair’ – it holds the style more, and you don’t have those annoying fly-away bits or any static like you do with freshly washed hair.

You can always use a little dry shampoo on the roots to freshen your hair up slightly too, you have the best of both worlds that way.

Style 1: The thick plait

This is probably one of the easiest styles to create when you need your hair off your face. Simply sweep it over to one side and plait from the bottom of the neck downwards. You can make it as messy or as neat as you wish. I usually plait it neat, then pull both sides to make it slightly messy and wider so it has that loose look. Second day hair keeps it in place too

2. The waterfall braid

The Waterfall Braid is ideal for second day hair and it’s a lot easier than it looks. Gather a section of hair at your temple on whichever side of your head you prefer and split into three strands. Start as a regular braid to make the base of the braid.

  1. French braid in a section from the top and add it to the middle section of the braid.
  2. Take the left strand of hair at the bottom and bring it over the centre strand of hair.
  3. You will then split the right hand strand (which is now at the bottom of all three sections) and let half of it cascade and cross over the other half into the middle.
  4. Repeat using a new section from the top.
  5. Once you reach the end, you can either continue with a normal plait, or secure at the send of your head with bobby pins.

I saw this look on www.lovemaegan.com and she does a great video tutorial that is easy to follow.

3. The textured top bun

We’ve featured the top bun before, but it’s a style that is so quick to do. Instead of keeping it neat like the last style we showed, give it a little texture by backcombing or simply by pulling out small strands and leaving bits hanging our rather than being tucked in tightly.

A doughnut ring is ideal for this style, you place your pony tail through the ring and wrap it round. Keep it loose to get the look of Lauren Conrad, but still secure with bobby pins.
