Hair Inspiration: Cheryl Cole at Cannes

by

We loved Cheryl Cole’s messy take on the French plait so here’s a step by step guide on how to get the look at home!

ImageSTEP 1

Add volume to the roots with a volumizing root booster spray.  When drying hair, aim the heat at the roots to create natural volume and when styling, backcomb the front section of the hair and smooth the top layer over with a brush.

STEP 2

The main thing to remember for Cheryl’s take on the French plait is messy and long. Before styling the plait, curl or wave your hair first to give extra texture so that the plait isn’t poker straight.

STEP 3

Start the plait at the back of the head roughly an inch above the height of the top of your ears. Tie the top section of hair into a pony tail with a clear elastic and leave the rest hanging down.

From there, begin a normal plait and start to weave in sections, keeping it loose, to create the french plait.

STEP 4

When you reach the nape of the neck tie the hair into another ponytail with a clear elastic and plait normally from the hair tie for about two inches (plait loosely still) and tie with a clear elastic.

Where you have used clear elastics, tie a fine ribbon or fine piece of leather around the elastic ties.

TOP TIP

Cheryl’s French plait looks fab because of the length and volume of the hair. If you’re hair is a little shorter, then clip in some 100% human hair extensions to give a natural look. Each piece can be carefully placed where you need it, but remember to use your own natural hair to cover any clips when weaving sections of hair into the plait.
