A day at the races

by

We love a day at the races, especially when it’s Ladies Day! But the main focus is usually our outfit and our hair. So if you’re off to the races this year, or any special event, take a look at our hair inspiration boards below. We’ve also picked out some handbag heroes that you can take with you to keep your hair in place all day and all night!

Braided updo’s and buns are ideal if your dress has detail on the neck or back. If you’re going for a sleek and sophisticated look then try a smooth ballerina bun, and if you’re style is more laid back chic then go for a braided up do. We’ve got a tutorial in our Spring Style Series for a braided style that would be perfect!

Wear your hair down if you have a strapless or plain dress – a block coloured dress can be complemented perfectly with Hollywood curls like Amanda Seyfried, or soft waves like Lauren Conrad.

We’ve picked out our favourite products to get help get the look you want, whether it’s curly, wavy or straight, or if you simply need that one top product to make it last all day.

To prep the hair
Just like we prep the skin before makeup, our hair care also needs a little preparation to make the hair manageable and to stop any damage from heat styling. Moroccanoil is great if your hair has slightly dry ends, not to mention that it will speed up drying time too! After you’ve prepped the hair with this, spray Tigi S Factor Heat Defender to protect the hair for drying and styling.

For the long locks
Cheat your way to long locks with I&K hair extensions – use them to create gorgeous long curls or if you already have long hair, use them to add extra volume. Choose from natural blondes and brunettes, to the more statement styles like ombre and dip dye.

For gorgeous curls

If it’s a curly style you’re going for, use a mousse to help shape the curls. We love Tigi Bed Head Foxy Curls Extreme Curl Mousse. Its non-flaking formula gives curl memory so your hair curls will maintain their shapes and style all day and night. At the same time, your hair will have a soft and smooth finish by smoothing the cuticles. Simply dispense into your palm, work into your hair and blow dry with a diffuser for beautiful curls!

To make it straight and sleek

Sexy Hair Power Straight Balm is the key to gorgeously sleek hair. This balm will combat even the most thick and curly hair. It will leave you with ultra-straight hair without the extra weight. Frizz is eliminated and your hair is moisturised with key ingredients of Aloe Vera Gel and Wheat Protein. Not to mention the amazing apricot vanilla blossom scent!

Apply to towel dried hair and distribute evenly by combing it through, then blow dry using a paddle or round brush.

For extra volume

To add extra volume and texture to any style, use a texturizing spray like Sexy Hair Flip It Over. This finishing spray will give your hair extra texture and fullness without being stiff or weighing your hair down. To really get the volume at the roots, flip your head over and spray lightly (after shaking the can) into dry hair. Scrunch and tousle then flip your hair back over.

The handbag heroes

When you’re at an all day event, you need your style to stay put. Two of our favourite finishing products are now available in handbag friendly sizes, perfect for carrying around throughout the day!

Paul Mitchell Freeze & Shine Super Spray provides powerful hold and memory with a shiny finish. The pump spray allows you to create a fine mist over the hair too, so great if you only like a little bit of hairspray!

Alternatively, if you need a stronger hold, try Tigi Bed Head Hard Head hairspray. It gives maximum strong hold and control so your hairstyle stays put all day long.
