Protecting Your Hair When Driving

During summertime, you may want to go out and drive on the motorway with your convertible's top down. Just take note though that without your car's roof, you are totally exposed to the sun. One of the most vulnerable parts of your body is your hair. Overexposure to the sun makes your hair dry, damaged, and frizzy. Here are some tips then that will help make your crowning glory stay soft and bouncy while you enjoy your drive.

Before driving out, make sure your hair is sun-protected. Mix half a cup of water with half a teaspoon of sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 25. Pour this in a sprits bottle. Upon towelling off after a shower, spray this solution on your damp hair. If you find this a messy task, rub an SPF 25 lip balm on your hair.

Colouring your hair can also help reduce the damage with the colour acting like "sunglasses." For blondes and brunettes, use a darker shade. If you are a redhead, it is best to use a colour-locking gloss treatment. Raven-black hair needs no such treatment.

When driving your convertible or when you drive with windows open, tie your hair into a ponytail or a bun. By doing this, you reduce the damaging effects of the wind. Better yet, wear a hat or a scarf around your hair to prevent damage. Finally, if you wash your hair, use shampoos and conditioners that can provide your tresses with extra protection against the harmful rays of the sun.
