Tutorial: The 3 Braid Ponytail

by

This weekend we’re going for laid back, easy hair so we’ve put together this tutorial to show you how to create the 3 braid ponytail. It’s super-easy to do and you can wear this as neat or as messy as you like – whichever style you prefer!

If you’re hair is on the finer side, don’t forget you can add in your clip in hair extensions to create a thicker, longer ponytail.

Step 1: This is where you hair extensions come in – if you want to make your ponytail thicker or longer, make a small ponytail in the centre of your hair, leaving out the rest of the hair from the right around the edge of your hair line. Taking pieces of your clip in hair extensions, begin clipping them around the base of the small ponytail. Add as many as you feel you need for the volume and length and for what feels comfortable. (We have used colour 6/613 on our model)

Now take all of your own hair that you left out and cover the small ponytail, creating one large ponytail.

Step 2: Split your ponytail into 3 sections. Begin by braiding the first section using the usual three-strand braiding method and secure with a clear elastic. Here you can also try fishtail braiding if you prefer.

Step 3- 4: Continue braiding the other two sections in the same way. Again, use any method of braiding, and you can also make each braid a different size.

Step 5: Now braid all three sections together to create the 3 braided ponytail. If you like your hair to be neat and tidy, add some hairspray to keep any fly-away pieces in place. If you prefer a messy boho style, gently tug at sections of the braids to loosen the braid. Secure with a clear elastic, and carefully remove the elastics from the original three braids.

Another tip is to sprinkle a light dusting of Clynol Powder Punch – this will add brilliant texture and volume to help mess up the style.
